Your next customer might not be searching Google at all. They might be typing “who’s the best auto shop in Sunnyvale” into ChatGPT and taking whatever answer comes back. Roughly one in six American consumers now uses an AI chatbot for search and AI systems field billions of queries a day. Almost none of your competitors are doing anything about it. That’s the opportunity.

How an AI Decides Who to Recommend

A chatbot is not running the ranking math Google runs. It is drawing on what it can read about you across the open web and assembling an answer it thinks is trustworthy. That means it is looking for clarity, not cleverness. It wants to know what you do, where you do it and who you do it for, stated plainly enough that a machine can extract it without guessing.

This is why keyword stuffing has gone from ineffective to actively harmful. A page repeating “best Sunnyvale plumber” fourteen times gives an AI nothing to work with. A page that says “we repair tankless water heaters for homeowners in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and Cupertino, usually same day” gives it everything.

Write the Way Your Customers Ask

People talk to chatbots in full sentences. They ask how much something costs, whether you’re open late, whether you handle their specific problem. If your website never answers those questions in that language, you’re invisible to the systems doing the answering.

Add a real FAQ section and answer each question directly in the first sentence, before any preamble. Short paragraphs and clear headings help too, because a system extracting an answer needs to find one cleanly.

Consistency Is a Trust Signal

AI systems cross-check you. If your hours say one thing on your site, another on Yelp and a third on your Google Business Profile, you look unreliable to a machine that has no way to know which is right. Getting your name, address, phone and hours identical everywhere is unglamorous and it matters more than most tactics.

This is exactly the work JOHO Marketing does for Bay Area small businesses. Contact us and we’ll audit how AI systems currently describe your business, which is usually an eye-opening conversation.
